Bongs

Bongs are water pipes. The smoke gets filtered through water. The smoke can be less harsh.

This type of pipe filters the smoke through water. But that does not mean that they are more 'healthy' than other forms of smoking.

Studies have been undertaken by MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for psychedelic studies) to find out if smoke inhaled through a bong is less harmful.

The results were disappointing. Water filtration reduces THC levels significantly, but leaves most of the harmful tar in the plant material. Therefore, it does not necessarily make sense to smoke this way. You can see the study results here if you like.

But still, bongs are a pleasant way to smoke Marijuana.

If you decide on buying one of these, keep a few things in mind:

Size
The bigger the water pipe, the smoother it usually will be to smoke it. The smoke has more time to cool down in a big waterpipe.

Ice or not?
Some bongs have the ability to put ice into the neck. The smoke becomes much cooler. This is a great way to enjoy the smoke on hot days.

Material
Most common material for these pipes is glass. Most are made from it.

But there are also some available made from Acryl (Plastic), Bamboo Wood, Ceramic or Metal.

Glass is the best choice if you ask me. Cool smoke from glass tastes good.

But make sure you buy a quality one with glass thicker than 3.5mm. Otherwise it will break earlier or later.

Acryl bongs have a small price. They come in many colors and sometimes even as glow-in-the-dark (fluorescent). They are relatively break resistant. Acryl is easy to clean.

But smoke from plastic seems to taste not as nice as from glass. Maybe that is just imagination. But beer tastes better from a glass too, doesn't it?

Bamboo Wood

I just love the way bamboo looks like.

These are so natural. They are not that easy to clean but its still possible.

Ceramic
Come in the weirdest shapes and many different colors. Most of them are a bit hard to clean because of the unusual shape. Not meant as everyday pipes but serious fun to have with your friends.

Metal
Delivers cool smoke. Indestructible (unless you run over it with your car). Easy to clean. But you won't see the dirt inside, anyway.

Brazil

Another funny variation. These pipes look really cool. The guy on the left is a stealth pipe. It looks like a rasta man, but under his hair there is a pipe head hidden. Find this guy here.

Hookahs (not Hooker)

These are not originally intended to smoke Pot in the first place. It was made to smoke fruit tobacco. However, you could mix some pot into the fruit and smoke that.
