What is Marijuana Addiction?
I personally have been smoking marijuana for about
8 years now. I am writing this text in 2010 at 28 years of age.
This is my take on Marijuana Addiction.
Marijuana can be addictive.
But the addiction is not very severe. It is more like a habit.
I oftentimes want to have the nice stoned feeling more and more
often. At some point, I start using Marijuana daily during normal
activities.
This habit forming is the danger
of Marijuana.
The user might smoke before and during work. She might smoke before
going to the cinema. Or before going to social meetings. She is
stoned most of the time every day. This habit is the Marijuana addiction.
Quitting Marijuana is hard
for habitual Marijuana Users. They feel inconvenient when there
is no pot in the house. So they put a lot of time and money into
getting pot. They always have some and always smoke some.
Usually, these users think they are addicted. That is true. But
here is one important distinction to make. Many of these people
I met, are firstly addicted to the tobacco smoked with the marijuana.
Especially bong users who smoke their
pot with tobacco are strongly addicted to the nicotine hit they
get. They mix pot with tobacco. Than they inhale a large amount
of smoke deeply into their lungs. The body gets a high dosage of
nicotine. This is very addictive.
Those regular daily pot smokers I met usually did not really have
their lives together. They had oftentimes a tendency to overindulge.
Whether Pot, Television, Alcohol or others. Marijuana
abuse was not the only unhealthy thing in their lives. They
did not like their Jobs.
I also found that these users are still alright when there was
no pot around. One of them than smoked pure tobacco in the bong.
I never saw bodily symptoms of cannabis
withdrawal in a person. The only bodily withdrawal symptom I
found was in my own body.
After a long period of daily smoking, probably 3 month, I stopped.
Because I went on a trip to Australia.
During the first few weeks of that trip, I had a feeling of unease
in my muscles every night when I lay in bed. Especially in my arms
and legs.
It was like a very very subtle cramp. It made it a bit harder to
fall asleep. I had to tense my muscles to make the feeling go away.
It usually came back until I fell asleep.
I had this symptom again one year later. I went from daily smoking
to no smoking within a day. Again, subtle cramps in my arms and
legs. These symptoms disappeared after ca. 2 weeks.
They can be felt during times when
the body cleans itself from Marijuana.
I always smoked marijuana without tobacco mixed in it. It is easy
for me to fall into the habit of daily smoking.
I have smoked before work. (Sometimes I am more creative). I smoked
before cleaning the house and while on trips in nature.
After some time of doing that, the effects
of marijuana disappear for the most part. I than have to discipline
myself and stop to smoke. That is sometimes not easy.
Here are a few basic tips for people that have to make a marijuana
test or similar and want to get it out of their system. Marijuana
Detoxification.
That is as far as my personal Marijuana addiction goes.
Usually people are fine when they stop Marijuana. Some are addicted
to the tobacco but don't realize it. Marijuana addiction is more
like a habit. A habit to numb out the mind to not experience the
daily chores.
